(1) Each TELCO Equipment Room shall be rectangular in shape and free of
obstructions, such as columns and braces, if possible. If columns or
braces are present, they shall not impede the installation or operation
of individual system head end equipment and access to each equipment
cabinet's front, side or rear areas. The floor area occupied by the
column shall not be counted as a part of the room's minimum useable
square ft. requirements. A minimum of 910 mm (3 ft.) shall be provided
around each cabinet unless the cabinets are installed joined or side by
side where the 910 mm (3 ft.) rule applies around the entire assembly.
MIN ceiling height shall be 2.4 m (8 ft.) above finish floor. The TELCO
Equipment Room shall be a minimum of 3.7 m x 4.3 m (12 ft. x 14 ft.) or
as large as the sum of the provided planned, and two spare systems and
access required.
(2) The TELCO Equipment Room shall have a raised floor (computer
flooring- when computer flooring is to be used, refer to VA manual PG-
18-3, Topic 10-"Central Computer Room" for specific floor guidelines)
with a minimum 500 mm (20 inch) finished floor height and a suspended
ceiling. Approximately 9.3 sq. m to 14 sq. m (100 sq. ft. to 150 sq.
ft.) of the Equipment Room shall not have computer flooring for
providing space for batteries, rectifiers and inverters. Flooring
material shall have antistatic properties. Raised floors are considered
Air Plenum areas. Therefore, all wires and cables provided shall be
installed according to the most stringent Air Plenum Code.
(3) The TELCO Equipment Room shall be provided with a Class B fire
rating, 1000 mm (40-inch) wide by 2100 mm (84-inch) high self-closing
and locking metal insulated door equipped with a deadbolt key lock.
Also, an intrusion alarm shall be provided on each room access point to
be annunciated locally and at the Facility's Engineering Control Room,
Operation (i.e. Telephone Operator or MAS Emergency Room Desk.
(4) Floors, walls and ceilings shall be sealed to prevent dust and all
walls shall be painted in a light color.
