TERMINAL CABINETS
(a) May be used where the number of outlets served is minimal, the
distance of the run is in excess of 90 m (300 ft.) from the otherwise
nearest telecommunications closet and/or the cost of providing a
telecommunication closet, as described herein, is prohibitive. The use
of terminal cabinets as a substitute for telecommunications closets
will not be approved.
(b) Where required, each cabinet shall be: labeled, steel, not less
than 18 gage steel code with doors and concealed hinges attached by
welding. Refer to VA Specification Section 16742, Part Two "Equipment
Cabinet" and Part Three "Installation" for specific guidelines.
(c) Doors must be secured by a lock with a minimum of two keys.
(d) Shall be thoroughly cleaned and painted at the factory with primer
and the OEM's standard finish or as directed by the Facility's Chief
Engineer, using Service Chief or TCD-194D.
(e) Each cabinet shall have a 20 mm (3/4 inches) thick fire plywood
backboard covering the entire interior surface of the back of each
cabinet if equipment-mounting rails are not required.
(f) Cabinets shall have a minimum inside depth of 400 mm (16 inches)
from the inside of the door to the face of the plywood backboard.
(g) Additionally, for Special Telecommunications Systems, provide
equipment-mounting rails, guides and shelves in lieu of 20 mm ( inch)
plywood backboard. However, plywood backboard is acceptable if the
cabinet is used solely for the interconnection and distribution of
systems wires of cables where active or electronic equipment is not
provided.

TELEPHONE EQUIPMENT ROOM
8.11.1
REQUIREMENTS
(a) Location
(1) The room shall be located within a cable distance of 300 m (100
ft.) of the Console or Operator Room. It should be located adjacent to
the Main Computer Room and, if possible, as close as possible to an
outside telephone company cable entrance and not in a patient care
area.
(2) Avoid locations that are restricted by building components that
limit expansion such as elevators, core outside wall or fixed building
