areas shall be plenum rated and installed according to the most
stringent Air Plenum Cable Codes and, as described herein.
(e) Each under floor duct and/or cellular floor installation shall be
provided with appropriate wire management system(s) as described herein
(A/E Note: Refer to Specification Section 16742 Section Two for
specific VHA approved wire management systems).
8.7
TELECOMMUNICATIONS OUTLETS
(a) Outlet boxes shall be the same minimum size as NEC standard quad
(or dual duplex) electrical outlet boxes.
(b) Outlet boxes shall be equipped with quadruplex wall faceplates and
four (4) category five RJ-45 jacks, and contain enough space for one
additional (1) fiber-optic and one (1) analog coax cable jacks (for a
total of six available jack positions) provided by the Contractor.
(c) Unless otherwise specified, mounting heights for telecommunication
outlets shall be:

(d) Patient Wall Units (PBPU): Use the provided receptacle box, conduit
and connections. Do not violate the OEM's PBPU UL certification.
(e) Special Communications: 450 mm (18 inches) AFF unless otherwise
specified by system design or indicated on the drawings.
(f) Outlets shall not be located within 1,200 mm (48 inch) of the
"swing open" side of inward opening doors or within 450 mm (18 inches)
of light switches, thermostats or other electrical receptacles.
(g) Unless otherwise specified, provide one (1) outlet for each room
wall, centered on that wall and one (1) outlet on either side of a room
door.
(h) Elevator telephone cables providing telephone service to the
elevator car shall be extended to a terminal box located outside the
elevator shaft, approximately midway of the maximum up/down travel
range of the elevator car. The terminal box must be easily accessible
from the internal hospital area and connected by 40 mm (1-1/2 inches)
conduit to the nearest telecommunications closet. Provide the outlet in
the car's standard telephone backbox.
