(6) Conduits and/or sleeves should be adjacent to a wall on which the
conduits and/or sleeves can be supported and should be installed in a
manner not to interfere with the use of the backboard for terminals.
(7) Caution should be taken to avoid drilling through structural beams
to install conduits and/or sleeves.
(8) All empty conduits and/or sleeves located in Equipment Rooms,
telecommunication closets or at telecommunications closet backboards
shall be sealed with a standard non-hardening duct seal compound to
prevent the entrance of moisture and gases and meet fire-resistance
requirements.
(m) Horizontal Conduits: (A/E Note: Sizes shall be shown on drawings).
(1) A minimum of seven (7)-100mm (4 inches) conduits shall be installed
from the Telephone Switch Room to each vertical riser. Two (2) are for
telephone, two (2) are for data, one (1) is for fire
alarm/security/emergency, one (1) is for special communications and one
(1) is spare. Contact TCD-194D for technical approval on the type and
quantity of these conduits.
(2) A minimum of six (6), 100mm (4 inches) conduits shall be installed
from the TELCO Equipment Room to the Central Computer Room.
(3) Conduits between telecommunications closets on the same floor shall
be sized to house the number of conductors needed, in addition to
providing for future growth. Install a minimum of six (6), 100mm (4
inches) conduits between closets, two (2) for telephone, one (1) for
(4) Conduits required to feed individual telecommunications outlets
shall be sized and installed as described herein.
(5) Conduit runs to and/or from telecommunications backboards in a
closet or interstitial space shall terminate at the top or bottom of
the backboard. Conduits shall not cover any portion of the backboard.
(6) Conduits shall be provided for individual runs serving
telecommunication outlets in tiled or masonry walls such as Operating
Rooms, brick exterior walls and all other locations where unobstructed
cable installations are not readily possible. Also, conduits shall be
provided for pay stations, telecarts and outlets in freestanding
counters as described herein.
(7) Horizontal runs of enclosed wireways are not acceptable for above-
ceiling applications. However, enclosed wireways are required in
interstitial spaces.
(8) Cable ladders may be installed above suspended ceilings in
corridors for station wiring in non-critical areas (i.e., outside
surgery, recovery, ICU, etc.). Minimum size shall be 300mm (12 inches)
wide with 40mm (1 inches) high ends. Contact TCD-194D for specific
guidance and approvals.
