TELECOMMUNICATIONS CLOSETS
(a) These rooms shall be provided with heating and/or cooling equipment
capable of maintaining the internal space between 32.8 degrees C (60
degrees F) and 22.2 degrees C (72 degrees F), with humidity control.
requirements shall include back-up AC power capabilities. The HVAC
equipment shall be stand-alone in design and accommodate a twenty-four
hour, seven-day week, year-around operation, and remote alarming (loss
of power, cooling and heating) functions. Minimum cooling requirement
is 20,000 BT/H. Additional cooling shall be provided according to the
actual expected equipment installation and use.
(b) The closets shall support various data equipment (i.e. data
equipment (i.e. Nurse Call, Code One, MATV, RED, IC, etc.) in addition
to the requirements of stand-alone telephone equipment. Closets shall
be provided in the quantities and locations that will limit
telephone/data cable/wire runs from the closet to the outlets to a
maximum of 90 m (300 ft.). Each closet shall fully support BICSI
standards.
(c) For every 930 sq. m (10,000 sq. ft.) of administrative floor space
served, there shall be 3 linear meters (10 linear ft.) of wall space
required.
(d) These closets require additional vertical risers from the Computer
Room to each closet to support a separate backbone cable distribution
system for data requirements. Conduit and path sizing shall be a
minimum according to Telephone Backbone Guidelines herein. For further
guidance on conduit requirements, consult with TCD-194D.
(e) The back wall of all closets shall be lined with 20 mm (3/4 inch)
"fire retardant" plywood, 2400 mm (8 ft.) high with the bottom one foot
above the finished floor, if possible. It should be limited-combustible
as defined in NFPA-101, Chapter 3, Life Safety Code (NTE 25 Flame
Spread).
(f) Closets shall not have a suspended ceiling. Ceiling shall be a
minimum of 2700 mm (9 ft.) above finished floor.
(g) Entrance must have a minimum unobstructed area of 1200 mm (48
inches) directly in front of the closet door.
(h) Terminal cabinets shall not be used in lieu of telecommunications
closets.
(i) Closets will be minimum 3000 mm (10.0 ft.) deep by 3600 mm (12.0
ft.) wide. Minimum door size shall be 1000 mm (40 inches) wide by 2100
mm (84 inches) high.
(j) Closets may be placed adjacent to but not combined with electrical
closets.
