(2) The unit shall serve all electrical apparatus associated with the
table (receptacles, surgery lights, etc.) except for general lights and
X-Ray equipment.
9.3 SURGERY SUITE CENTRAL GROUND DETECTION ALARM
Provide an additional remote fault detection alarm panel for each of
the various IPU's. Locate the remote panel at the Surgery Control
Station (Nurse Clerk Station).
9.4 PATIENT WALL SYSTEMS
In certain intermediate and critical care areas, the VA requires the
installation of patient wall systems (referred to as Prefabricated
Bedside Patient Unit-PBPU) in patient bedrooms/areas. The PBPU's shall
be installed as described herein.
9.5 PREFABRICATED BEDSIDE PATIENT UNIT (PBPU)
(a) PBPU Style A1 (Single Bed Room) and A2 (Multi-Bed Rooms): A PBPU
is provided adjacent to each single bed and between each pair of beds
for the listed areas.
(b) PBPU Style B1 and B2 (Recovery): This unit is for patients who do
not require physiological monitoring and shall be provided for a
designated percentage of the beds in Respiratory Care Units and for
each bed in Surgical Recovery Facilities. This PBPU is provided for
each bed and contains medical gas and vacuum outlets in the Intensive
Care configuration.
(c) PBPU Style C: This unit is provided for each bed in all Intensive
Care Units, the Life Support Unit in Ambulatory Care, and a designated
percentage of the beds in the Respiratory Care and Spinal Cord Injury
Units. It contains all of the required services for Intensive Care,
including physiological monitoring capability.
(d) Refer to Program Guide PG-18-4,National CAD Standard Details for
specific requirements.
9.6 PBPU INSTALLATION
(a) All PBPU's shall be surface mounted on the patient's headwall.
(b) All installations for one bedroom shall be at the head and to the
corridor side of the bed.
(c) All PBPU's to be located between a pair of beds in multi-bed areas
shall be centered between the beds. If an odd bed remains, apply the
one-bedroom concept.
