6 LIGHTING
6.1 GENERAL
This article covers the lighting requirements for VA facilities. Refer
to Appendix A, VA Illumination Levels. Use IESNA standards for lighting
situations that are not covered by this article.
6.2 STANDARDS
Refer to Article 1.5.
6.3 LIGHTING CALCULATIONS
6.3.1 CRITERIA
Perform all lighting calculations based on VA illumination levels in
Appendix A. Where there are no VA illumination levels, refer to IESNA
Lighting Handbook for specific applications. All calculations shall use
one or more of the techniques described in the IESNA Lighting Handbook.
6.3.2 INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IN ALL SUBMITTED CALCULATIONS:
(a) Room Name
(b) Room Number
(c) Fixture type chosen for the room
(d) Number and type of lamps to be used in the room
(e) Required illumination level (VA or IESNA)
(f) Calculated illumination level
6.4 DETAILS
Provide individual lighting fixture details or a lighting fixture
schedule on the drawings and not as part of the specifications.
6.5 DESIGN APPROACH
6.5.1 DEVIATIONS
(a) Whenever deviations from the VA's Standards and/or Design Guides
occur, the Engineer shall make recommendations applicable to that
specific project.
(b) Request approval from the VA for the implementation of any new or
improved lighting products and/or systems that are energy efficient or
result in cost savings.
