conventional wall switch at doors to provide override "OFF" and active
"OFF-ON" functioning.
(g) Control exterior lighting by photoelectric controls and overriding
astronomical time switches. Provide circuiting for roadway and parking
area luminaries in logical groups utilizing time switches to allow
cycling off of the lighting in unused areas during the night. Retain
some security lighting.
In relatively large, infrequently used rooms such as crawl spaces, pipe
spaces, interstitial spaces, Attics, etc., where lights can be left on
unnoticed, install a pilot light outside the area which indicates when
the lights are on.
6.11 BEDROOM LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS
6.11.1 BED LIGHTS
(a) Fluorescent wall bracket fixture 1200 mm (4ft.) with two lamps for
up-light and two for down-light for reading. The fixture should be
totally patient controlled with a four position pull-cord switch
(up-down-both-off). Exception: Single bedrooms shall have up-light
controlled from switch inside room entrance. Fixtures shall be for use
on 120 V (Volts) circuits.
(b) In bedrooms with lavatories, provide a pull-cord for total patient
control. See Article 6.11.6 "Bedroom Lavatory" below.
(c) Domiciliary - Bed lights are not required.
(d) Intensive Care Units - Provide a flexible arm tungsten-halogen
fixture, bracketed from the PBPU for reading and examination. Control
by switch on the lamp head.
6.11.2 OVER-BED TASK LIGHTING
(a) Fluorescent fixture (4-lamp), 600 mm x 1200 mm (2 ft. x 4 ft.)
parallel to and centered over each bed. Control from switch in PBPU (or
bedwall when PBPU is not employed). Provide label for the switch with 6
mm (1/4 inches) engraved letters "OVERBED LIGHT" on PBPU or the wall
plate.
(b) Intensive Care Units - Fluorescent fixture (6-lamp), 600 mm X 1200
mm (2 ft. x 4 ft.) parallel to and centered over each bed. Control by
combination dimmer/switch outside of door to bed cubicle or Isolation
Room. Include 3-way switch at vicinity of Nurse Console.
(c) Domiciliary and Mental Health and Behavioral Nursing Units-Over-
Bed: Task lighting is not required.
6.11.3 GENERAL LIGHTING
(a) None required (provided by bed light, up-light and spill light from
vestibule lighting). Exception: Provide a fluorescent fixture (3-lamp),
600 mm x 1200 mm (2 ft. x 4 ft.) over the center floor area of four-bed
rooms, controlled from inside the corridor door. If the center floor
area is not available, use two (2-lamp), 600 mm x 600 mm (2 ft. x 2
