5.3.3 ISOLATED POWER SYSTEMS FOR GENERAL USE IN ANIMAL OPERATING ROOMS
IN MEDICAL RESEARCH SERVICE
(a) One isolated power panel (with transformers, line isolation
monitor, circuit breakers, etc.) shall be provided for each operating
table in every Animal Operating Room.
(b)The isolated power panel shall be not less than 5 kVA, located in a
permanent wall nearest to the table, and shall power all electrical
apparatus associated with the table (receptacles, film viewers, surgery
lights, etc.), except for general ceiling lights and X-ray equipment.
(c) Isolation transformer shall not exceed 7.5 kVA. Eight single
"Hospital Grade", NEMA type 5-20R power receptacles shall be provided
for general use at each table; four flush mounted in the ceiling (two
at each end of the table); and four distributed on the permanent
wall(s) associated with the table.
5.3.4 ISOLATED POWER SYSTEMS FOR SURGICAL LASERS IN HUMAN OPERATING
ROOMS FOR SURGICAL SERVICE OR ANIMAL OPERATING ROOMS FOR MEDICAL
RESEARCH SERVICE
(a) Surgical laser characteristics shall determine power requirements
for each project.
(b) Where feasible, lasers shall be powered from general use isolated
power systems or dedicated use isolated power systems. Otherwise, a
grounded, permanently wired electrical service shall be provided.
