VA REGIONAL OFFICE TECHNICAL CRITERIA
Doors, Frames and Hardware
Three foot wide by seven-foot high solid core, oak wood veneer doors with kickplates and a natural
finish shall be the standard. All interior access doors into heavy traffic areas including the
computer room, loading dock, service elevator lobby and corridors leading to the mail and
publications areas shall have corner guards at exposed corners. Service area doors shall be 16-
gauge painted hollow metal. Service doors in the lobby, mechanical room and loading dock shall be
of a painted, hollow metal (minimum 18 gauge), flush seamless design. All metal doors shall have
steel stiffener core insulation filler in core voids. All doors shall be fire rated as required by code.

Main entrance and vestibule shall consist of two sets of narrow stile, offset automatic sliding doors (with
panic features) or automatic swinging doors, inclusive of airlocks to mitigate drafts when both inner and
outer doors are open at the same time. These doors shall be anodized aluminum storefront with
insulating glass lights matching the exterior window wall and a neoprene glazing system.

All exterior doors shall be insulated and weather-stripped.

Loading dock - overhead doors shall be factory finish, 24-gauge insulated sectional doors, electrically
operated, with steel frames. These doors shall have a vision panel and a three-inch track with seals and
bumpers. The frames shall be 16 gauge painted hollow metal, fully welded at the corners and fire rated as
required by code.
Hardware shall be standard duty commercial grade with lever handles, accessories as required by
code and shall include mortised ball bearing butts. All locksets will be keyed to the building master
system, unless stated otherwise.

All public to private area access doors shall be equipped with a card key access system.

Panic exit hardware and automatic closures shall be provided on all egress doors.

Agent Cashier Security measures are at the discretion of local management and may include:
tamper resistant hinge pins, automatically locking door closure with dead bolt, re-entry with
restricted key or lock combination, egress by use of an inside thumb latch.

Millwork
All casework shall include fixed cabinetry constructed of high pressure, premium grade plastic
laminate over 0.75-inch plywood with 0.020-inch melamine backing.
