Animals Resources. The Guide calls for two lighting levels -- one for
workers and a reduced level for the animals.
(b) Provide uniformly spaced rows of single-lamp "enclosed and
gasketed" fluorescent fixtures. Rows are to be over both cage and aisle
locations. In a pattern, control between one-quarter and one-third of
the fixtures by time clock and the remainder by wall switch, yielding
an approximate all-on level of 645.6 lux (60 foot-candles) and a
minimum time-controlled level of 215.2 lux (20 foot-candles). Locate a
similar type three-lamp "enclosed and gasketed" fixture over the
sink/counter area and control by a separate wall switch. Mount all
controls on wall outside of the room door. Connect the timer-
controlled lights to an emergency circuit.
(c) Provide timer on corridor wall adjacent to each Animal Housing Room
or ward door to control general lighting in the room. Timer shall be a
7-day, 24-hour dial unit with 15-minute minimum interval adjustments.
Include an adjacent override switch having a pilot light to indicate
the override position.
