2 RACEWAYS, WIRING AND EQUIPMENT
2.1 GENERAL
Install all wiring in raceways.
2.2 CONCEALED AND EXPOSED
Refer to VA Design and Construction Procedures (PG-18-3), Topic 7,
"Piping, Ducts and Electrical Conduits" for general locations of
concealed and exposed raceways.
2.3 UNDERGROUND DUCTS AND CONDUITS
(a) Generally, encase underground ducts and conduits in concrete.
(b) Direct burial conduit may be used for outdoor multiple lighting
systems and small power feeders. Refer to Specification Section 16111
for specific applications.
2.4 UNDERFLOOR DUCT SYSTEMS
(a) For new construction of large office areas, provide under-floor
electrical power and signal systems ducts for the following areas:
(1) Personnel Division - Clerk's and Technician's Office
(2) Registrar Division - Patient's Processing and Remote Control
Dictating Rooms
(3) Fiscal Division - Clerk's Office
(4) Supply Division - Purchase and Contract Office, and Inventory
Management Office
(5) Other- Any open office spaces where future flexibility is desirable
(b) Provide duplex receptacle and telephone outlet fittings on the
under-floor duct to suit the furniture layout.
(c) Space the under-floor ducts 1500 mm (5 ft.) on centers. Where
structural steel frame buildings are involved, use trench header and
utilize the cellular steel as the raceway. Coordinate with structural
engineer to insure that the proper cells are enclosed for raceway use.
2.5 POKE-THRUS/POWER POLES
In renovation projects for large administrative areas such as Patient
Processing Rooms or Remote Control Dictating Rooms, use poke-thru
devices and/or power poles, as determined by the VA.
2.6 PATIENT MONITORING RACEWAY SYSTEM
(a) Provide an empty raceway system between each bed and the Life
Support Surveillance Center (Nurses' Station) in the following areas.
