(32) Size water closets for the age group served (pediatric or adult).
(33) Provide one water closet per 15 children.
(34) Provide deep basins at diapering counters.
(35) Provide mop or slop sinks in janitor's closets and laundry tubs in the laundry room.
(36) Provide recessed, electronic sensor operated faucets in diaper unit sinks.
(37) Faucets in child bathroom areas shall be automatic shut-of type.
(38) Provide "goose neck" faucets in toddler, preschool, and school age classrooms.
(39) Hot water temperature in child care areas shall not exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
(40) Provide floor drains in all toilets, laundries, kitchen storage, janitor's closets, kitchens, and water play areas, to
(41) Provide trap priming system for floor drains that do not normally stay wet.
(42) Electrical service should be based on the following minimum criteria:
(a) Interior lighting: ........ 7.5w (watts) per SM (sq. meter) (2.5w per SF)
(b) Receptacles: ............ 3.0w per SM (1.0w per SF)
(c) Exterior area lighting: 30w per SM (10w per SF)
(43) All service equipment shall be Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed.
(44) All wiring methods and grounding systems shall meet the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
(45) Provide one safety type convenience outlet for every 3.66 linear meters (12') of walls in child activity areas.
(46) Convenience outlets in child areas should be at a minimum height of 1372 mm (54") above the finished floor and shall
be of a child safety type (such as one that requires twisting the inner portion of the device to activate current and at the same
time prevents a child from inserting any foreign objects. Removable caps and plugs do not meet this requirement.
(47) Provide for special power requirements for lobby/reception, kitchen, and staff areas.
(48) Provide safety type duplex receptacles in corridors.
(49) Provide dedicated circuits for cold storage.
(50) Provide ground-fault circuit interrupters (gfci) pro tection for all receptacles located in kitchen, laundry, toilet, and
other wet areas.
(51) Provide an internal communications system which allows for individual room/area communications. This system is
for two -way emergency communications rather than for music or general announcements. A PA system will not be provided.
(52) Lighting levels shall be in accordance with the design criteria in the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Handbook.
