(5) Provide see-through areas (child and adult heig ht) in doors leading to child activity areas.
(6) Folding partitions and doors shall not be used.
(7) Locate windows, in child activity areas, at child -eye level and in accordance with NFPA 101.
(8) Use distortion free glass.
(9) Casement and projecting type of windows shall not project into the room.
(10) Double-hung windows must be counterbalanced to prevent finger or arm injuries.
(11) Windows used for ventilation must be securely screened to prevent insects from entering.
(12) Sliding glass doors, low windows, and glass walls shall be plainly marked at child and adult eye levels.
(13) All door and window glass, at child height, must be safety glass.
(14) Window treatment in child activity areas must allow for room darkening capability.
(15) Use child scaled materials and equipment in activity areas, toilets, and other areas frequented by the children. These
include plumbing fixtures, mirrors, windows, drinking fountains, counters, cupboards, cubbies, chalk and bulletin boards, etc.
(16) Exits not leading directly to playgrounds or not under constant staff supervision must be alarmed or otherwise
monitored.
(17) Use portable partitions (not folding walls) if activity areas are to be subdivided.
(18) Use hard surface floors in areas used for eating. painting, water play, etc.
(20) Hard surface flooring in child activity areas and toilets must be seamless and non-textured.
(21) Grouted surfaces may not be used in child bathroom areas.
(22) Soft floor covering should be impervious to bacteria and fungus growth and odor retention.
(23) Carpets must comply with fire (NFPA 101) and sanitation requirements. They must be stain and soil resistant, anti-
microbial, easily cleaned and fast drying.
(24) Door and cabinet hardware in child care areas must be operable from either side, non-locking, except for adult height
controlled-access storage, and be free from dangerous protrusions.
(26) Exit door hardware in toddler activity spaces will be located above the reach of the children.
(27) Furnishings shall not have sharp corners or edges, will not splinter, do not have toxic surfaces, and cannot be easily
tipped over.
(28) Center shall be barrier-free and accessible to physically handicapped persons.
(29) The site shall permit independent actions of physically handicapped persons.
(30) Temperature in all rooms shall be maintained as per ASHRAE handbook.
(31) Provide mechanical exhausts from all kitchen, toilets, laundries, dining, food preparation areas, and soiled diaper
collection/storage.
