FIRE PROTECTION
All specifications with regard to fire protection shall conform to the NFPA and local codes.
Sprinklers
Sprinklers shall be quick response and have a temperature rating and orifice size as required by
NFPA Standards. Sprinklers in unfinished areas shall be new automatic spray upright or pendent
sprinkler or equal. Sprinklers in finished ceiling spaces shall be automatic spray, chrome plated
and semi-recessed (recessed in main lobby). Horizontal sidewall sprinklers shall be new automatic
spray chrome sidewalls with matching chrome escutcheon plates. Sprinklers in finished ceiling tile
areas shall be installed at centerline of tile in both directions. Locate sprinklers in a symmetrical
pattern coordinated with lights, diffusers, etc. Sprinklers in the vicinity of heating equipment shall
be of temperature rating as required by NFPA 13 according to the distance from the equipment.
Sprinklers installed in locations subject to mechanical damage, located below seven feet AFF and as
noted in NFPA, shall be equipped with approved guards.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers shall be of the proper type and properly sized and rated in accordance with
NFPA 10. Fire extinguishers shall be charged and tagged prior to installation. Fire extinguishers
shall be mounted in heavy gauge steel extinguisher cabinets with baked enamel inside finish,
recessed trim and solid door with decal reading "Fire Extinguisher". Provide necessary frames or
bucks for use during construction of walls.
Temporary Fire Protection
Provide temporary fire protection throughout all construction areas at all times during construction.
Temporary fire protection shall meet with the approval of local fire protection officials. Provide
necessary construction and approved signage to identify the fire department connection at a location
approved by local fire protection officials. Take necessary measures to protect the fire protection
services to assure continuous availability of the service. Temporary fire protection may be from the
permanent system.
