VA REGIONAL OFFICE TECHNICAL CRITERIA
CODES AND STANDARDS
The design, construction and installation of all Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office
(VARO) systems shall be in accordance with this document and with the latest editions and/or
revisions of all applicable codes and standards. Compliance with current provisions of governing
Codes and Regulations in effect during the progress of the work is also required. Executive Orders,
however, do not apply to Enhanced-Use projects. Where there is a conflict, the more stringent code
and/or standard shall be applied. Nothing contained in this document shall be construed as
authorization or permission to disregard or violate local and legal requirements.
To insure compatibility with private sector commercial standards and local practices, commercial
grade methods and materials shall be incorporated into the design and construction of VAROs. The
contractor is to install complete and fully operational systems, tested and approved by Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) Officials. VA will also provide input on all options as identified herein or
on a project-by-project basis.
