SPACE CRITERIA
This criteria utilizes 28 as the standard number of beds of all types for one MS&N Patient
Care Unit. For planning flexibility,the maximum allowable number of allowable patient beds
per unit is 32.
All MS&N Patient beds are to be contained in single-bed rooms.
A. Patient Care Unit: Reception Areas
1. Waiting / Lounge (WRF01) ...................................................... 200NSF (18.6NSM)
Minimum NSF. Provide one per each MS&N Patient Care Unit type. Provide an
additional 55 NSF per each increment of four projected patient beds for the patient
care unit type, greater than twenty-eight. Maximum 255 NSF.
This space provides circulation and sitting area for patients and visitors. It should be
located near the Nurse Station for visual supervision.
2. Toilet, Public (TLTU1) ............................................................... 50 NSF (4.7 NSM)
Provide one for male and one for female for each MS&N Patient Care Unit type.
3. Consultation Room (OFDC2)................................................ 120 NSF (11.2 NSM)
Provide one for each MS&N Patient Care Unit type.
B. Patient Care Unit: Patient Areas
1. Patient Room, Isolation,
Negative Pressure (BRIT1) ................................................... 185 NSF (17.2 NSM)
Provide one per Negative Pressure Isolation Patient Room authorized for each
MS&N Patient Care Unit type.
Allocation of these rooms to specific Patient Care Units is on a per project basis.
2. Patient Room, Isolation,
Positive Pressure (BRIT2) .................................................... 185 NSF (17.2 NSM)
Provide one per Positive Pressure Isolation Patient Room authorized for each MS&N
Patient Care Unit type.
Allocation of these rooms to specific Patient Care Units is on a per project basis.
3. Anteroom, Isolation (BRAR1) ................................................... 53 NSF (4.9 NSM)
Provide one per each Isolation (Negative or Positive) Patient Room.
4. Patient Room, One-Bed (BRMS1) ........................................ 160 NSF (14.9 NSM)
Provide one per patient bed projected for each MS&N Patient Care Unit type.
