Detailed Needs and Requirements: Residents' Quarters
5213.1.4
Primary Users
V.A. residents may either be male or female. Recently there has been an
increase in female residents.
Residents may be called to care for patients at any time. They will often
have to sleep at irregular hours during the day or night.
Discussions between residents when relaxing in the unit provide an
important element in the learning process. These discussions should
therefore be encouraged.
5213.1.5
Trends
The status of residents has greatly increased in the last few years. It is
probable that this trend will continue. Salaries and the facilities provided
for residents may more closely equal that of staff physicians in the future.
