A.
Geared hoisting machines shall be used for elevators in
buildings of eight stories or less. Gearless machines shall
be used for elevators in all buildings nine floors or more.
The placing of hoisting machines in basement machine rooms, or
in machine rooms adjacent to the hoistway, shall be limited to
special cases where conditions do not permit the installation
of overhead machines.
B.
Limited rise: Oil hydraulic direct plunger elevator equipment
shall be considered for limited rise (four stops,
approximately 14.5 m (48 foot) rise) slow speed elevators.
The machine room and pump unit shall be located adjacent to
the hoistway at the lowest landing.
C.
SCR control shall be used where elevators will be in
relatively intense service. Use of SCR control is appropriate
for unlimited applications.
1.
Single wrap geared traction configuration shall be used
for speeds up to 1.75 m/s (350 FPM).
2.
Double wrap gearless traction configuration shall be used
with speeds of 2.5 m/s (500 FPM) and greater. Roping
shall be 2:1. Secondary sheaves shall be used.
D.
Operations: In general, the following systems of operation
shall be provided for elevators:
1.
Single car selective collective operation.
2.
A two car bank of elevators shall have duplex selective
collective automatic operation.
3.
A bank of three or more elevators shall have group
automatic operation with automatic selection of method of
dispatching.
(a) For a group of three or more elevators include zone
(b) Dispatching of systems shall be tailored to building
configuration and general precepts of a fully zoned
system.
E.
Elevator capacity and platform design: Passenger elevators
1815 kg (4,000 lb.) capacity, 2400 mm (8'0") wide by 1850 mm
(6'2") deep platform. Service elevators up to 1815 kg (4,000
lb.) capacity, 1800 mm (6') wide by 2600 mm (8'8") deep
platform. Service elevators up to 2270 kg (5,000 lbs.), 2100
mm (7') wide by 2600 mm (8'8") deep platform.
F.
Elevator cars: Car enclosures shall be of a single entrance or
front and rear type and shall be of standard design unless
modifications are dictated due to special project conditions.
Cab designs shall be detailed on the architectural drawings.
Materials for elevator cabs shall be selected so the car
enclosure conforms to ASME A17.1 and the specifications.
