VA Space Planning Criteria (Chapter 402)

Lockers, Lounges and Toilets, and program space in Chapter 410-EMS Lockers,
Lounges, Toilets and Showers. Either/or do not duplicate space.
1. Lounge, Staff (XXXXX) ....................................................... 120 NSF ( 11.2 NSM)
Minimum NSF or 15 NSF per each FTE position authorized, whichever is greater.
2. Locker Room, Staff (XXXXX)................................................... 80 NSF (7.5 NSM)
Minimum NSF. Provide an additional 6 NSF per Technician FTE position authorized
greater than thirteen.
3. Toilet, Staff (XXXXX)................................................................ 50 NSF (4.7 NSM)
Minimum one for up to 15 FTE positions authorized. Provide one additional toilet for
each increment or fraction of 15 FTE positions over 15.
I.
Educational Auditorium
1. Each affiliated VA Medical center should have access to an auditorium capable of
seating the projected number of MTOT house staff, students and trainees for such
activities as medical centerwide conferences, grand rounds lectures, in-service
orientation, and training programs. This need can be met in one of the following
ways:
a
Sharing a university educational auditorium. When either and existing or
planned the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center is part of a
university medical center, the sharing of the university's educational
auditorium should be explored, provided it is physically convenient for the
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) staff and students.
b
Use of the theater, when provided, based on criteria in Chapter 269,
Recreation Service. The size of the theater may have to be enlarged to meet
the educational needs as set forth above.
c
An educational auditorium, capable of seating the projected number of MTOT
house staff, students and trainees. This auditorium will also serve for patient
entertainment and non-educational meetings.
2. Educational Auditorium (XXXXX) ....................See Formula below and Table 1
Total House Staff plus MTOT Students per Trainees = Total Number of Seats
