a. Room partitions and corridor partitions shall generally have a single layer
of 5/8 inch fire rated gypsum wallboard (GWB) attached to a metal stud
system with additional finishes as shown in this Program Guide.
Other
partition construction shall be provided where more stringent fire, safety
and security requirements dictate the use of other materials. Where fire
rated doors are required, partitions shall have a similar fire rating.

c. For partitions requiring sound attenuation, see Design and Construction
Procedures PG-18-3, Topic 11, "Noise Transmission Control".
3. CORNER GUARDS: For corner protective guard requirements see Architectural
Design Manual PG-18-10, Article 4.5, "Handrails, Wall Guards and Corner
Guards".
4. STAIRWAYS: Use molded rubber treads on Stairs and Resilient Tiles (VCT) on
floor landings and rubber tile on intermediate landings except for stairs
exposed to the weather or those in strictly utilitarian areas such as shops,
boiler plants, etc.
5. WALL PROTECTION AT DRINKING FOUNTAINS AND LAVATORIES: Provide vinyl wall
covering behind Drinking Fountain Alcoves where wallboard or plaster finish
occur and behind lavatories and end walls in patient bedrooms, examination
rooms, treatment rooms, etc. at a minimum 1250 mm (50 inches) wide (or
terminating at the nearest inside corner. The vinyl wall covering shall go
from base to ceiling.
