MOTOR SIZES FOR GEARED ELEVATORS
Values given in table are maximum rated loads of elevators and are based on the assumption that counterbalance will be
provided to equal the cage plus 40% of rated load. In other words, net loads will be 60% of elevator ratings.

The efficiencies listed may be considered as normal for first class overhead installations; if they are not correct for
the equipment to be used, corrections to correspond to actual available efficiencies must be made in figures
tabulated above.
This page does not apply to basement type installations because of poorer mechanical efficiency.
KW ratings of M-G sets are given to be used for variable voltage, geared equipment, but sizes of motors listed may,
of course, be used for speeds and load ratings shown for other types of elevator equipment.
For sizes of motors to apply on elevators where ratings are not in the above table, use the following formula:
HP = Elev. Capac. (lb.) x F.P.M.
550 x % Eff.
KW Factor for Gearless: KW = K x T x H
T = Rated Cap. in Thousand
H = FPM in Hundred
