ELECTRIC MOTOR MAINT ENANCE
ISSUE:
Greasing of motor bearings.
BACKGROUND:
In response to inquiries from several VAMCs concerning greasing of motor
bearings, following information is provided as guidance:
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Follow motor manufacturer's recommendations on lubrication.
2. In the absence of manufacturer's instructions, the following *table is a guide for
frequency of lubrication:

Terminology:
Easy Service: The equipment is used about one hour per day, such as valves,
door openers, tools etc.
Standard Service: The equipment is used one to two shifts per day, such as
HVAC equipment (offices ), and compressors.
Severe Service: The equipment is used on three shifts for seven days, such as
fans, and pumps (HVAC equipment in hospitals).
Very Severe Service: The equipment is used in dirty vibrating applications,
pumping hot fluids or air or in high ambient environment.
