TOPIC: AIR FILTRATION
ISSUE:
Air filter efficiencies for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems.
BACKGROUND:
Filter efficiency is important in achieving the desired level of clean air. The higher
the efficiency of an air filtration system, the greater the benefits in reducing
pollutants entering the occupied space. Many a times, design consultants specify
wrong filters and the systems have to be redesigned to suit the occupancy.
Following are recommended efficiencies of filters for various occupancies. These
should be implemented on future projects. The efficiencies are in percentages and
are based on ASHRAE Standard 52.1.
