LEAD LINED DOORS AND FRAMES
ISSUE:
Improper or missing details at lead lined doors and frames.
BACKGROUND:
On a recent project, the A/E failed to show lead lined frames for lead lined doors
resulting in several change orders.
DISCUSSION:
VA architectural standard detail No. 24E shows lead lined frame requirements.
Inadvertently, the VA detail was not used, and instead the A/E developed his own
detail which failed to show all requirements for the lead lined frames.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. Use VA standard detail 24 E, Lead Lined Door Type 15 and Frame on future
projects where lead lining is required, such as Radiology Procedure Rooms.
