ENGINEERING CRITERIA FOR TB PATIENT ROOMS AND
RELATED AREAS
ISSUE:
Heating, Ventilating, and Air conditioning (HVAC) criteria for suspected or
known infectious TB (S/KI TB) patient rooms and related areas and clinical
mycobacterial laboratories.
BACKGROUND:
HVAC criteria in the VA planning document "Program and Facility Planning
Guidance for Tuberculosis Programs dated August 18, 1995" is being revised
and enhanced.
DISCUSSION:
FM's HVAC Professional Group has decided to develop a more detailed and
comprehensive HVAC criteria to provide additional information, and to answer
issues raised by field personnel.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
A new expanded TB criteria based on VA's planning document "Program and
Facility Planning Guidance for Tuberculosis Programs dated August 18, 1995"
has been added to the HVAC Design Criteria for Hospital Projects as item A36
`TB Criteria'. Follow this criteria on future projects.
