HELIPORT DESIGN
ISSUE:
Criteria for heliport design.
BACKGROUND:
There have been recent inquiries from VA medical centers for a design criteria for building
heliports.
DISCUSSION:
VA does not have any specific criteria for heliport design. However, Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA), U.S. Department of Transportation has several advisory circulars available
free of charge for heliport design. VA must comply with FAA requirements. Some of the
circulars are:
Heliport Design, Advisory Circular 150/5390 - 2A
Obstruction Marking and Lighting, Advisory Circular 70/7460 -1H
Proposed Construction or Alteration of Objects That May Affect Navigable Airspace,
Advisory Circular 70/7460 - 2I
