RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. NEW PROJECTS: Install semi-instantaneous heaters with over-temperature control devices to provide a
temperature of 130 degrees F, as specified in VA Master Specification Section 15424.
2. EXISTING INSTANTANEOUS HEATER INSTALLATIONS: Provide a master thermostatic mixing valve on
the discharge to provide water at 130 degrees F. Evaluate the feasibility of changing system to semi-
instantaneous type and/or installation of thermostatic mixing valves at all fixtures.
3. ALL SYSTEMS: Provide over-temperature alarms on the discharge of the water heater and provide
thermostatic mixing valves for patient bathing and showering fixtures.
