DESIGN ALERT FROM PROCATS
(PROACTIVE CLAIMS ANALYSIS AND TRACKING SYSTEM)
ISSUE:
VA requirement for 6 inches layer of crushed stone under the concrete floor slab on
grade.
BACKGROUND:
According to ProCATS data a credit of ,000 was accepted on a project for deletion
of specification requirement for 6 inches of crushed stone under slabs on grade. VA
agreed to this deletion based on local practice and soil conditions in the area.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. The Structural Professional Group is requested to determine whether this
requirement could also be deleted on future projects under certain conditions to save
cost. There's a potential of cost savings in this area.
2. Also, please determine if a change is required to VA standards such as Structural
design manual, master spec or standard details.
