DESIGN ALERT FROM PROCATS
(PROACTIVE CLAIMS ANALYSIS AND TRACKING SYSTEM)
ISSUE:
Building architectural features requiring structural design.
BACKGROUND:
ProCATS data shows change orders of 0,000 were issued on three projects as the
A/Es failed to show structural design for a number of items shown on architectural
drawings requiring structural details. For instance, lintels, roof cornice angles,
canopies, etc. were shown on the architectural drawings but not detailed on the
structural drawings.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. It's important to remind the A/Es to pay attention to architectural items requiring
structural details.
2. Both structural and architectural professional groups will discuss recommendations
for improving A/Es performance in this area.
