DESIGN ALERT FROM PROCATS
(PROACTIVE CLAIMS ANALYSIS AND TRACKING SYSTEM)
ISSUE:
Discrepancies between the architectural floor plans and the finish schedule.
BACKGROUND:
The ProCATS data shows a very significant dollar amount of change orders due to
changes that had to be made during construction to resolve discrepancies between the
architectural floor plans and the finish schedule. For instance, on one project the SRE's
justification was" Revise the wall types in the finish schedule to agree with the
drawings", and SRE on another project justified a change order" Provide wall coverings
in various rooms throughout the facility where a specific pattern was not shown on the
finish schedule and the contractor was unable to d termine the exact wall covering
e
required".
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
This is the best information that could be collected from the ProCATS data base on
justifications given by the SREs. There might be other reasons not available in the
ProCATS database for making these changes. However, the architectural professional
group will review criteria and master specifications to see what can be done to avoid
these discrepancies on future projects.
