DESIGN ALERT FROM PROCATS
(PROACTIVE CLAIMS ANALYSIS AND TRACKING SYSTEM)
ISSUE:
Ceilings in isolation room bathroom/toilets.
BACKGROUND:
The ProCATS data shows a significant dollar amount of change orders due to changes
that had to be made during construction to change finished ceilings in the isolation
bathrooms/toilets from acoustic tile ceilings specified to plaster ceilings. PG-18-14 calls
for plaster ceilings in the isolation room and anteroom, but is not clear on
bathroom/toilet ceilings associated with isolation rooms. PG-18-14 however, calls for
acoustic tile ceilings in bathroom/toilets in general.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. The architectural professional group will review requirements for isolation room
bathroom/toilet ceilings specified in PG-18-14 and make necessary changes.
2. Also, other areas will be reviewed where water-proof ceilings, dry wall, or plaster
ceilings may be more appropriate to avoid future change orders as ProCATS data
shows a number of places where the ceilings had to be changed during construction.
