DESIGN ALERT FROM PROCATS
(PROACTIVE CLAIMS ANALYSIS AND TRACKING SYSTEM)
ISSUE:
Problems in the design of radiology area.
BACKGROUND:
An expensive change order was issued on a project in the radiology area. The walls
specified in this area were 4 inches thick and had to be changed to 6 inches to
accommodate recessed type electrical circuit breakers specified for the project.
Recessed type circuit breakers would not fit into 4 inches thick walls. The architectural
standard detail shows 4 inches thick walls.
RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION:
1. According to Mike Sierco (088), the intent is to provide 6 inches thick walls in the
radiology area, and there were drawings prepared to show this change.
2. The architectural professional group will review this and make necessary changes.
3. In discussing this issue with Jim Tyson (088), he would look into providing an
appropriate designer note in the electrical master spec to caution the electrical designer
for coordination required in this area.
