ISSUE:
NFPA 90A requirements for use of building shafts for special exhaust systems:
DECISION:
Following decision was taken by HVAC professional group to clarify VA's position on
use of shafts:
1. On page 28, paragraph B is being changed to following:
"To be in compliance with NFPA 90A, VA considers following ducts connected to the
special exhaust systems to be hazardous and not suitable to be housed in the same
shaft carrying environmental supply and/or return ducts.
. Fume Hood Exhaust Systems
. ETO-Ethylene Oxide Sterilizers Exhaust Systems
. Grease-laden Kitchen Hood Exhaust Systems
. Ortho/Prosthetic Laboratory Exhaust
. Battery Charging Rooms".
2. All other ducts connected to special exhaust systems listed in paragraph 5.2 on page
27 may be installed in the same shaft carrying environmental supply and/or return
ducts.
3. Implementation of this change would be determined by individual members
depending upon status of their projects.
