DESIGN ALERT ON VA MASTER SPECIFICATION
SECTION 15050 - BASIC METHODS AND
REQUIREMENTS (MECHANICAL)
Quality assurance paragraph 1.3.d "Welding" is being changed. This paragraph is
causing some pain to our RE's and the contracting officers. On your current projects
under design, please tell your A/E's to substitute following:
D. Welding: Before any welding is performed, contractor shall submit a certificate
certifying that welders comply with the following requirements:
1. Qualify welding processes and operators for piping according to ASME "Boiler and
Pressure Vessel Code", Section IX, "Welding and Brazing Qualifications".
2. Comply with provisions of ASME B-31 series "Code for Pressure Piping".
3. Certify that each welder has passed American Welding Society (AWS) qualification
tests for the welding processes involved, and that certification is current.
